Organic Vase of Flowers

A class with a difference! This class can be done on a Long-Arm or a Domestic Machine. Using simplified applique and collage methods, you'll create a piece of organic contemporary art depicting a vase of flowers. The optional kit provides almost everything you will need for the class. Reversible Patchwork Bucket Hat

Freeform Landscape

This class can be done on a Long-Arm or a Domestic Machine. Create a landscape wall hanging with clever use of fabric to convey perspective. The compulsory kit provides almost everything you will need for the class. WhatsApp to be on the list.

DETAILED COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Learn how to make Dresden points. Fussy-cut methods will be taught as an option for additional interest. The class project will be focussed on a small table-topper of about 75cm square, but you can change your layout to make a runner instead. Various methods of creating a background will be shown. Appliqué by hand or machine. Both methods will be shown. Create perfect circles for the centre of your Dresdens. We will only make the top in class, but quilting methods will be shown.

Variety of fabrics for the ‘blades’ & centres of Dresdens (similar to class sample) for the tablecloth. Background fabric for the top.

Quilting With Rulers
August & September 2024
9am -1pm (Dates by appointment)

This is a 2 lesson Class
Day one consists of learning to do basic shapes & patterns with your rulers. Marking for ruler-work is part of this class.
In the second lesson (a week later) we will create design with fills to add interest. Creating secondary designs on a quilt will be a part of this session.
Class fee: R500 (2 x 4 hour lessons).
Practice between lessons is necessary.

‘Easy Peasy’ trip Around the World
August & September 2024

This is a 4 class course.
Without a doubt, the easiest quilt you will ever make! Quick quilt for a gift? This is the pattern to use! Make any size you want to, from Baby to Bed size. Method remains the same. If you choose to make a small size in class, you will be given the fabric quantity requirements to make any quilt size later on. Join quilting teacher Joy Clark for this lovely class.
Class fee: R300 per 3-hour lesson. (4 lessons).
Homework in between lessons will be necessary.

Glorious Clamshells
September 2024

This is a 2 class course.
How can you not love Clamshells?
Another little project to keep you busy during load-shedding hours! A pretty little cushion cover all done by hand. Easy way of doing the shapes without tacking. Begin the project in the first lesson and after your piece is finished we will do the second lesson to quilt it and finish it off.
Class fee: R300 per 3-hour lesson. (2 lessons)
Kit may be ordered in advance R270.00 for Free Spirit kit (bright and bold as the pic) or R180 for a kit containing more traditional quilting fabrics in 'earth' tones.
Kit contains 25 fabric squares for the cushion top as well as the batting and the fabric to complete the cushion.

Learn how to measure your quilt and add borders in such as way so as to straighten the quilt. No more wavy edges!
1 Hour class
- Quilt-as-you-go Applique Cushion
Raw-edge Applique. Create your design using simple basic shapes, or use pattern provided.
2 Hour Class
- Mitered Borders
Learn how to pre-cut mitered borders and how to handle printed fabrics to ensure correct matched and fitted corners.
1 Hour class.
- Curved Piecing
Learn how to do curved piecing. You will receive a basic design sheet & pattern in order to create a table-topper or a larger quilt.
2 Hour Class
- English Paper Piecing 101
Learn how to get perfectly matched shapes and to piece without showing your stitches on the front of the piece.
1 Hour class.
- Foundation Paper Piecing
Learn how to use this technique in order to get perfect points on those patterns!
2 Hour Class
- Binding & Facing
How to get a good finish on your quilt with correct binding procedure, or make a facing for your quilt to finish it off.
1 Hour class.
- Dresden Plates
Learn how to make Dresden Plates by machine. (Two methods shown)
2 Hour Class
All classes are available on demand.
- Confetti
Create a scenery from a photo of your own, or one provided in class. You don’t have to be an artist to cope in the class. I am here to help you every step of the way.
3 Hour Class
- Thread Painting
You will be provided with a picture to play on. Dabbling with thread is a lot of fun! No fear…. Just enjoy the process and create something really pretty.
4 Hour Class

I offer one on one classes where I can walk you through the process from beginning to end, or help you figure out a tricky step / block / technique. From piecing to borders to quilting to binding, I am here to help you conquer your quilt.
Class fee: R180 per hour (number of hours dependent on skill / technique / class requirements)
LONGARM QUILTING LESSONS:
Contact Joy Clark to book appointment for a personal lesson at your own home on your own longarm machine. Learn about tension, loading the quilt, basting, ditching, fills etc. Cost will be quoted depending on your location.
